Nina Van der Pyl is a French professional contortionist living in Paris. Although she has practised gymnastics from a very young age, Nina was not destined to have an artistic career. Indeed, it is whilst working towards her PhD in astrophysics in the UK that Nina discovered the circus world - and she literally fell in love with it! She started doing aerial, specialising in corde lisse. But after attending a one-off contortion masterclass, Nina decided that this was what she wanted to do. She moved back to Paris in order to be trained with an ex-contortionist: Ericka from the contortion duo "Les Mandragores". Since 2015 she trains contortion and handstands with Elena Taraimovitch (ex artist from state circus of Moscow). Nina Van der Pyl works alone in contortion and aerial (hoop, tissue and mainly aerial rope) but also has a duo with Florence Peyrard ("Les Nymphéas"). In addition she created a contortion / cyr wheel / acrobatics act with the English performer Jack Robbins.
